Alternate US-19 (Alt-19) runs parallel to US-19 along the western Gulf Coast side of Pinellas County, passing through the waterfront communities of Crystal Beach, Ozona, downtown Palm Harbor, and south through Dunedin toward Clearwater. It is a narrower, more residential road than US-19 but carries significant local traffic — particularly tourist traffic heading to and from Honeymoon Island State Park via the Dunedin Causeway, local residents commuting through the waterfront communities, and seasonal traffic during Florida's winter visitor months.
Alt-19 through the Palm Harbor area presents different towing challenges than US-19. The road is narrower, shoulder space is more limited, and some sections pass through residential neighborhoods where truck maneuvering requires care. Downtown Dunedin along Main Street and Douglas Avenue generates frequent parking-area breakdowns, lockouts, and dead battery calls — particularly during the busy tourist season and special events at TD Ballpark.
